Do i have to put a feeder out in their run if they have access to the one in the coop? How about water? Should they have both outside and in? Thanks for all the help. This sight is just wonderul and full of information!!!!

I think that it is a personal preference. I keep my feed in a hanging feeder inside my coop. I have 2 waterers, 1 inside the coop and 1 inside the run.

BTW, Welcome to BYC! I agree with you about this being a wonderful site!

thank you! Yes, I did get one of those hanging feeders for the coop. I only got one waterer...so maybe should go pick up another. Im soo excited!

Welcome and have fun!

I've got 9 pullets...I keep the feeder and waterer, both hanging, in the coop. We're going to be installing a self-waterer outside in their run soon though. Have fun with your chickies.

I keep food and water in the coop all the time, and when it's really hot out, I put a tub of water out in the run for them too. I also throw food and treats in the run area once or twice during the day too. We made our chicken tractor so that the coop and the run were all attached in case we didn't put food or water out in the run one day, they could always climb back up the steps and go in the coop for whatever they need. We are first time chicken people too---and we love it!!!! Our 5 hens are 10 weeks old, and our roo is 11 weeks old now! Six more girls are on their way too! (That's it after that, I swear!)

I keep water and feed in both. I have a big bowl in there pen and a large hanging waterer. I hate to fill the hanging one more than I need to so on summer days I freeze big chunks of ice in lg cottage cheese containers and put it in the bowl with cold water. Keeps the water cold for a few hours.

Good luck with your chicks and welcome.

Great idea on the ice. I utilize a hanging waterer inside the coop and my chickens free range in the backyard and I see them frequent the "cement pond" quite often also.

I keep a hanging feeder in coup and one waterer in and one outside in the run.
