Hello! I'm new to raising chickens. My egglayers are over a year old. One went broody over 2 months ago. She showed all signs. I don't have a rooster so I knew I wouldn't get chicks. She kept sitting on all the eggs and even stealing them so I knew she wanted to be a mama. I did get baby chicks for her 2 months ago and she took to them and did great.
Now I my have another broody hen, but she's not acting like the otherone. She's staying in her hen box all day nd not roosting. She is not sitting on any eggs either. I've done some research on how to try and get a broody hen out of this stage. I take her out in the morning she eats and drinks but she ends up right back in the coop. I even been putting her up in roost at night. This has been on going for at least 3 weeks now. Any suggestions?

There is a broody-breaking method to short circuit the hormones, but your broody has gone on so long that I doubt you're going to shorten her broody spell by much. To be the most effective you need to get her in her first few days of broodiness and install her in a cage with an open mesh bottom to cool her down.

The best thing you can do at this point is to try to block her out of her nesting spot. She will only keep doing it as long as she can find a place to snuggle into which allows her to maintain her elevated body heat perpetuating her broody hormones.

If it's very warm where you are, sometimes it helps to wet down her underparts so there's a cooling effect as she moves about. Putting her out to free range will help a lot.
