Hey Guys,
I've got one of my laying girls, who has been laying for about 3months. Well, the past couple of days she has been sitting in the nesting box and when I come to check for eggs she is all puffed out and today she was a little growlie. She still let me get the eggs out from under her, but she did sit in there for probably another hour or more w/o anything under her? Is she indeed broody? We ourselves do not have fertile eggs,(no roo), but we do have a couple local folks we could get some from to try. I'd love to let her set if she would. What should I do to tell if indeed she would set? Do I need to just leave some of the unfertilized eggs under her for a while and see how long she sits? This would be so exciting to watch her and see if she'd do it. BTW she is one of my biggest BO girls, and my fav, very sweet. Any tips would be great guys! Thanks!

The best way to make a chicken go un-broody is to pay a lot of money for some hatching eggs.. then she'll sit on them long enough to get them growing... then she'll let half of them freeze, then some more will be broken, and then the rest? the one's that are still alive? She'll eat them. YAY.

Hey.... Congrats...sounds like a broody.... If you want to see if she serious about it give her some golf balls to sit on for a few days...if she's serious give her some eggs....I've had chickens for 3 years now but I'm a newbie on my first hopeful hatch also with a BO hen! If she gives up easily... I've read on this forum to give her some time she may just be new at the whole broody thing too...Good Luck!
