Well, I THOUGHT Pekins weren't broody types but Ethel started a nest around April 13 & there are currently about 20 eggs in it. For the first couple of weeks she would sit on them but would galavant some with Eddie (her husband) during the day. For the last 4-5 days she refuses to get off her nest. As a mom myself, I decided to let her try and have her babies because I can't imagine going to all this work only to have youR Eggs be taken away!! She got so serious about sitting now-- I don't know what to do? I know her 28 days will soon be up for the older Eggs but these over the last week she has laid, she hasn't been off of them much. Can anyone offer help/advice? What is the likelihood she can even hatch these? She is just so serious and protective now. I am actually hoping some will hatch even though I will have to regime them but-- she's just so precious sitting there trying to take care of her "babies" I don't have the heart to take her eggs away!!!!!

She probably has some since she is being Extra aggressive and not getting off the eggs, now.

Pekins are not that Broody of a duck but on occasion somebody gets one.

Should I just let her keep sitting even though some of them may not be viable? I feel like she was off of them an awful lot the first couple of weeks but then I have no idea how much they are supposed to sit on them. I just know now she won't get off for anything.

Getting off the nest for an hour or less is normal. As long as she didnt have days witbout sitting they should be fine.

Ducks take 28 days to hatch, and you're still a few days away from that, so definitely let her set still.

Or not......

If she was a real bird I would let her go for a much longer time. Sometimes first time broodies will come and go so much when they start sitting nothing really starts to incubate. You have nothing to lose by letting her sit 6 weeks or whatever as long as she seems healthy,,

The worst that can happen is the eggs hatch and the world has more dux....

Yeah; my first-timers take about a week to get serious.
