Hello! I was wondering why more sources don't explain or even mention angel wing. Possibly looking into ducks or geese as an expansion point for my flock, but if angel wing is a problem, I will try something else.

Can't you just purchase birds without? Or do you mean a problem if you breed them? I don't think it's overtly common and it can sometimes be corrected in chicks. I believe it's caused by vitamin D deficiency and some suggest incorrect incubation techniques. Others will know more.

You have to be careful with your protein content so usually around 3 weeks of age with water fowl you have to cut the protein you can use Oats to do this reg oatmeal not quick cooking or instant.at least 10% added to their chicken feed. Alternative to chick starter is Purina Flock Raiser which is formulated for all poultry and be sure to buy crumble for little ones.

Also water fowl need more niacin than is in chick starter so you'll need to supplement with either "plain" niacin 125-150mgs daily or Brewers ?nutritional Yeast 1 Tab per cup of feed. Till they are 10 weeks of age. Niacin def can cause leg lameness, deformities and neurological issues. It's an easy fix and determent if you start them on this as soon as hatch or you receive your water fowl.

WOW! Thank you so much! I think niacin is also in the water soluble vitamins I have. I can also supplement with the Brewers yeast. Favorite breed of goose? I'm looking at either Chinese of African... Love to hear your favorite!

I love them all but my fav is Toulouse and Buff American. I have Toulouse and Embden.

I love my Embden gander he was hatched here over 10yrs ago but having Embden isn't for faint of heart especially in breeding season. lol

I agree with Miss Lydia--that Purina Flock Raiser is a great all around duck food. I have used it on several flocks since about 2014, and it has never let me down. Mind you, when they are babies, I use the duck food designed for young ones. Also, when they are still growing and live in the temporary shelter, I always leave a small plate of chick gravel ( I think it is busted up granite), so they can digest the greenery I just have begun to feed them in addition to the crumbles.
