Questions about breeding my chicks ~ the lavender gene

Quote:
I don't think Julie has any lavenders. But she has lovely blacks & blues.

Who is Julie? I thought she was Jody???

That is where my lavenders came from...hinkjc

OK, I thought you were talking about hinkjc.

Cull merely means removing from the breeding pool--add the hes to your layer flock & put the roos on bug patrol. Or sell them to your feed store, or give them to a neighbor... Cull does not mean kill, although that is a method some use:(

I guess I associate cull with kill LOL We cull chickens and that means kill so I just assume.....sorry

Chick N Horses, All of the black chicks you hatched from my eggs will carry the lavender gene. You can either breed those back to create more lavender or add a fresh line of straight black and start over in working on the project.

I do have some of Julie's grandchicks growing out. She has very nice blacks and blues. We will use them to create a new line of lavenders so our current line is not inbred for too long. When working on these projects, you're always thinking ahead. I'm glad to see you asking questions. Feel free to contact me privately as well to discuss any questions you may have. I'm happy to help.

Thanks ~ You can bet you will probably be getting PMs from me about this
