I have an assortment of brown-egg layers who have as their guardian a Black Spanish rooster (white egg layer breed). I have noticed that a lot of my brown eggs have become lighter in shell color, and I occasionally get a white one. Is it possible that him breeding them influences the shell color? Just curious about that, or am I just hallucinating this? Thanks, Janet.

I believe a rooster will only have an effect on what color egg his offspring lays.

Dark egg layers tend to lay lighter eggs as the season progresses.
The cock bird cannot affct the colour of egg the hens lay but he will affect the colour of egg his offspring lay.
