Oh, OK. I was gonna say that it looked like a roo.........

Nope. Looks EXACTLY like Aretha ... a hen. At least, she's laying eggs. And, just look at that petticoat!

I'll see if I can get her to hold still for a photo.

Oh my! I have a few noisy hens...my RIR for one is quite funny. Right after we got her I opened the lid to the nest box and she happened to be in there. She hopped up and squawked at me quite loudly, then proceeded to come out of the coop and complain to all her little lady friends about my rude interruption...for the next 20 minutes. So much so that my husband said there must be something wrong, maybe her egg was stuck and I needed to check. Well I wasn't getting near her, she was too busy yelling at me, or so I thought. I looked up behaviors online and discovered some ladies are vocal about their egg laying accomplishments and this one definitely is vocal. Might be a good thing I don't have very close neighbors!
