Hello fellow duck lovers!
So I’ve had ducks for about 3 years now, two Muscovy females. The first duck I got, she was already a few weeks old and the second one I got when it was a duckling and we kept her in our bathtub until she could go with the other duck which was not a good idea lol. Anyways my one female duck (peepers) went broody and has been broody for a while now so I figured I give her some eggs to hatch. I bought 6 eggs off eBay that should be getting here next Monday or Tuesday so I have a bit to prepare. I’ve hatched chicks but I’ve never hatched ducks so I’m not entirely sure of what to do. Will the broody duck need separated from the other duck when the ducklings hatch? I know with chickens you have to, is it the same? The broody duck is also not the alpha of them the other one (Fiona or fefe for short) is. And then once they hatch how long would I have to wait until they can be with Fiona as well. Their coop is pretty large for two ducks, I believe about a 10x10 foot area, half is dirt the other is a wooden area, like the enclosed part of the coop to shelter from wether and that’s where their nests are. I could probably section of part of the wood area and maybe about half of the dirt area so it would be big enough. Also what about feeding them? I’ve been trying to find the answer but some places say normal duck feed, some say non medicated chick feed and some say the actual duckling food. Is there anything else I should know or prepare for about hatching ducks?
thanks!!
