Amen.
Now, this is WAY OFF TOPIC...but, please forgive me:
On September 5th, 2001, my husband and I were on a cruise ship in the Hudson River leaving New York for a 5-day cruise to Canada. My husband had the video camera out and was taking footage of the World Trade Center. I said to him, and it is on the video, "Bob...you just took tons of video of the towers on 4th of July...why are you taking so much now? They are ALWAYS going to be there!"
I returned to work at 5AM on Tuesday, September 11th, 2001 in Brooklyn, working at the animal shelter in Brooklyn. When we finished rounds, people in the lobby were glued to the television set, watching smoke pouring out of the first tower that had been struck by an airplane.
In a large group, we ran to our parking lot, where WAAAAY in the distance, we could see black smoke filling the sky. As the well-known events of the day continued to unfold, we had no idea if more targets would be struck, or what could possibly be next because it was unthinkable to us that any enemy could possibly infiltrate the US like this....perhaps idealistic thought, but it was a total shock to most of us.
For many of the people in our main office on Park Row right next to Ground Zero, September 11th ended their life as they had known it. Friends of mine were hit with "debris", suffering emotional trauma causing complete breakdowns and even a suicide. One person just missed being hit by part of a jet by about 20 feet.......how could you ever predict that?
Germs/viruses are so much more believable than getting hit by a body part on your way to work or having your building hit by a jet.
I'm sorry if I sound melodramatic, but many New Yorkers are now more cautious about things than in the past.
I think it is naive to downplay the status of our world's ability to fight these viruses!
