Questions about respiratory disease

Infectious bronchitis can be hard to test for. It is a limited disease, lasting about a month, so it might be that it needs to be tested when symptoms are worst. IB virus can be responsible for many of the egg shell problems that we sometimes see. It also may be responsible for some hens having reproductive disorders. When my flock had IB going through it, most all eventually got it, and they sneezed every few minutes, but pretty much acted normal. I had to wait at least a year from the last sick bird before adding or hatching chicks, so as not to keep the disease from passing on. They can be carriers of IB for 5 months up to a year, depending on which source you read. I saw a couple of wrinkled egg shells, but later, many other shell problems. Here is a good article with examples of the many egg shell problems that IB can cause:

I have one pullet that is still having raspy breathing and it’s been over a month, I’m guessing she has a secondary infection, what type of antibiotics should I get for her? And is there a way to get an antibiotic without taking her to a vet for a prescription?

Denegard seems to be the best from what FB group members say

I just ordered Denagard from eBay, here’s a picture, hopefully it’s the correct one. What would be the dosage for a 4 month old chicken? Also thank you all for your help, I really appreciate it!

I hope you have success with Denagard. I just started reading your threads in search of answers as I’m having fairly similar issues. I initially suspected gapeworm. Treated with Safeguard, but symptoms continued. Followed up with 5 days of Denagard and I thought things were getting better. While on Denegard my flocks poop returned to normal, their combs were nice and red, and they all seemed to have good energy.

However, yesterday the gaping returned, head shaking returned, and pale combs off and on returned. I’m seriously at a loss. I’ve checked for mites, lice, worms, environmental issues, sterilized their coop TWICE, changed bedding over to hemp, and their egg production is PERFECT. I can only figure two issues 👉🏻 they are all broody and they are all hot (despite every possible method to cool them off short of stepping in the house.) If it helps, I’ve read tetracycline combined with Denagard has higher success rates.

Tonight I took one of my chickens with respiratory problems. I have one with a swollen eye another one with bubbles in the corner of her eye plus sneezing and my 5 year old cockrel also wheezing and pale comb. Vets have given me tylan for the water plus oral antibiotics and eye drop to use for 7 days. Fingers crossed it works. Don't want to loose any off my babies. 😔
