questions about selling eggs

For what ever price you decide, go a dollar higher and if they return their carton knock a dollar off. So say you think $5 a dozen sounds fair, sell them for $6 and if a person brings their carton back when they want another dozen you sell it for $5.

also, I have an old teacher from high schools that has an agreement with a local farmer. Every so often he will buy them a bag of feed in exchange for eggs. Idk how often he gets eggs but they are both happy with the exchange and if you have some egg sales laws that make it hard to legally sell eggs it might be a good way to go!

Here in AR, you can sell your eggs only at the farmers market. Otherwise they are supposed to be USDA inspected... That being said, I did sell eggs through Nextdoor for a time. I sold large chicken eggs for $3/dozen or $4/18 count. I gave a 25 cent discount if you brought me empty egg cartons in good shape.

People do save cartons for me. We rent our guest house on weekends through Air BnB, and always include a dozen eggs when the hens are laying well. I give them a cute egg carton from Tractor Supply, because I figure it is part of renting our place.

That's a really LOVELY idea!

Our birds are visible from the street, and I have had people drive in our drive way and ask about eggs -- duck eggs have a waiting list, I only have 3 duck eggs/day usually.

People come here from Phoenix, and want to see the animals. We leave peas in the freezer that they can feed to the ducks. The kids (and some adults, too) enjoy feeding them. I let them give some scratch to the chickens sometimes, too. I always get good reviews from the ones who feed the birds!

I didn't realize duck eggs were a high demand item. We use them for baking which isn't often. DH won't use them for breakfast because he thinks they taste weird. I only get 2 per day (from 5 females) but I have at least a dozen and a half sitting in the fridge. I just give them away....

That's so very cool!

(Oddly, in the book I'm writing the MC has a B&B on a working farm and part of the draw is seeing the cows that give the milk and the chickens that lay the eggs. :D )
