Questions From A Total Newb On Quail

Coturnix abput "as loud as chicken rooster crow"??? LOL

I can hear a rooster crowing a half a mile + away.

Can you hear coturnix "crowing" half a mile away?

I can hear my roosters crowing outside in my barn 150 feet from my house with all windows and doors shut.

I can NOT hear my coturnix roos kept on my patio unless I open patio door leading to the room.
So how coturnix crow is "about the same decibel level " as a chicken crow?

Different types of chicken roosters have different crows. Some are louder than others.

As for not hearing a coturnix through a closed window...

I can hear them through closed DOORS. I can hear them through TWO closed doors. I could hear them through closed doors all the way to my property line. Hence why I moved the noisy ones to my basement. They don't bother me down there and they are in their concrete "bunker" which dampens the sound. I hear them all through my house, through the heating vents

but they are barely audible outside now when they get going, except on my patio.

I do have some that crow very little. Others who crow often (and yes, these are the boys that don't have coveys.)

I love 'em anyway.

I can hear my button quail 50+ feet away, through a closed door, too. They just sound like songbirds, though.

Maybe I just have noisy birds.

Whether or not the crow of a coturnix would be annoying depends on the person. Some people have posted on here before about how sick and tired they were getting about their boys crowing & how they couldn't wait for them to get big enough to process. Others of us actually enjoy the music. My coturnix & button quail are my own personal bird choir.

My cages are 29 yards from the house and I can hear them through a window in my bedroom. If you think I am weird because I know how far my cages are from my window, I shoot a bow.

Same here, I can picture myself setting in one at a red light blasting free bird with some flowmasters on her. The car makes anybody look cool.
