Hi,

We hatched turkeys last year and kept two pairs of Royal Palms for breeding both my hens started laying eggs in the spring which we collected and sold once sales started to slow we went ahead and let them set on a batch of eggs. For the most part they have all hatched when the first chicks hatched instead of being loving mothers both hens started running around taking no real intrest in the chicks so I went ahead and gave them to a nice chicken that already had hatched a bunch of turkey eggs. So my question is if the turkey hens are not raising any babies will they start to lay eggs again? They currently have three eggs left which we will check tonight but I think they are either empty or dead.

Now for the noise question my husband really likes the Tom turkeys but they NEVER shut up are there any turkey breeds that are less vocal than others???

Thanks in advance Nicki

Once they get use to their surroundings they usually don't gobble as much, but no they all gobble, especially when something strange is around our the toms are looking for a hen to mate.

So my question is if the turkey hens are not raising any babies will they start to lay eggs again?

Once they are convinced that the eggs are all done and then they will take a break and then rejoin with the toms and re breed and then lay another clutch of eggs most of the time. some times they take a month or two breaks.

lovely babies!!!

my tom stands on one side of the fence, the gander on the other and they stand there and scream at each other. its superfun. ugghghghhghhh!!!

:)

My turkeys gobble and chirp periodically throughout the day (every hour? every 1/2 hour). I'm so used to it now, it would seem weird if it was totally quiet! Also, since I live on a farm, their noises keep me informed if any strangers drive up.
However, I am TOTALLY annoyed that they wake me up at 5:30 a.m.!

my sister calls me every morning at 6:30 when she drives in to work... it 'motivates' me to get up.. thats if they turkeys/geese/roosters/goats/cats havent already starting making a fuss. for one minute today i was wishing it was winter and still dark at the late hr of 7 in the AM

I know what you mean... sometimes I wish it was dark till 7 too! It wouldn't be so bad if I wouldn't stay up till 12midnight talking to my boyfriend on the phone. Then I end up getting 5 hours a sleep a night and I'm tired all the time!
