Queston about when you can eat an egg

I'm in Texas and my parents are in Florida (where I'm originally from) and she called me because she knows I've just started raising chickens and have joined this forum with a question to ask. She was given eggs by my uncle and he had dated the eggs with the date they were layed and told them that you're not suppose to eat them for about 5 days. I've never heard of this since I've been on this forum and though the info I learned in a search says that eggs can last for a month or two (if they last that long) no one ever asked the question I'm posting today. Has anyone heard of this? Is it a myth, or just misinformation given to them?

P.S. I'm the first in the family to have started raising chickens since my great grandmother and she's long gone to get advise from. So my parents are pretty clueless about chickens. I'm learning myself, but am very glad I found and joined this forum!

i've never heard of not eating them for 5 days. i suspect it is an old wives tale. Maybe someone else knows more.

I have eaten eggs that where still warm from the chicken!

This morning the eggs I ate were less than 30 minutes old.
Eggs can last at least a month (the ones in stores are already a moth old) if refridgerated.

I thought so, The eggs my family ate this morning were still warm from the hens too and I told my mom that none of us are vomiting from them so they must be fine. Thanks ya'll, I'll let her know!

I've eaten an egg that was probably 6 months old...it had been refridgerated for almost all of that time though...they just dry out some. Ok, alot!!! But still good for scrambled.
