Ok at what age can I start add some grid and / or oyster shell to there diet ...........


When they start laying ????????

I have some button quails and some Tenn. Browns and some white quail which are about 6 weeks olds or so and the buttons are just starting to lay.....

I would just add a dusting pan / sand box to your pen. I use an old hospital wash pan and put clean sand in it. If you have a large pen then you could use a small childs swimming pool. They love to dust themselves and trust me they will consume a lot too. I guess you could put oyster shell in there too if you wanted but I have found most quail egg shells to be pretty hard and thick with out it.

Coturnix Quail lay when about six weeks old, and have somewhere near 14 hours of light, and sufficient warmth. I believe Bobwhites will lay in the spring following after they hatch.

You can add grit, or oyster shell to their diet at anytime.
