quick hand turning question

Tell me more about turning eggs in cartons. Do you just prop up one end and switch the higher side when you turn these eggs?

As for the eggs on their sides, everything I've read has said that 3X a day is adequate for chicken eggs. That's what I've been doing and so far all of the eggs that were fertile seem to be doing well. Of course the disclaimer here is that this is my first hatch and I'm only on day 8. But so far, so good.

well good! i'm glad they seem to be doing well! today is my first day turning 3X and so far i love it already! much better than 5X. and as far as turning with egg cartons, i run a home daycare so i have all these wooden blocks. but you could use anything really, rocks etc. but i just put a block or 2 under one side (the long side of course) and then just switch it the next turn. pretty easy. the reason i have my shipped eggs in cartons is cuz i read on another thread that shipped eggs shouldn't be laid on their sides if you want a better hatch rate (which we all do). and i would even turn my locals in cartons but i just have my bator SO full now, there's just no room. now i've read where people turn their eggs (in cartons) by simply putting a book or 2 under the bator and just tilting the whole bator. but i never understood what the water inside the bator did in this circumstance? mine would spill all over the place! lol!
