Quick help! 2 Not hatched, broke the eggs, babies are alive!

It can take a little bit, ive had one that was up running around in like hour and another took it like 4 hours. You should give yourself a pat on the back, it sounds like you saved them, I bet if you had not done that they would have never made it.

I'm still too nervous to pat myself on the back, lol. Let them hop up and I'll think about it.

So is it true that these little guys can't go back into the brooder with the others? As we have a cat, I gathered up the 9 along with mean 'ole Mom and put them in there along with some chick starter and water. Do I need to find a box and keep these guys separate?

I usually put them in a high edged container in the brooder near the others where it's warmest and keep an eye on things. Squashed, tired or shocky chicks can take awhile to get to their feet. In three hours give them a bit more Karo if they're still not up.

Well, we just lost one. It tried to rally, but just couldn't seem to overcome the trauma of it's birth. I took him outside, dug a nice hole, and buried him deep, and said a little prayer over it.

As for the other two, which we've dubbed Lucky and Grateful, they're doing great. Eating, drinking, peeing, and pooping, lol. They're sitting up, on their legs now, but I've not seen them walk much. I think they're just still very tired. I do believe they'll make it, and I'm praying for them. Such cute little buggers.

Give the Grateful Dead and Lucky a kiss from here. You never know the one that died might also not have hatched from internal causes. What you know is you saved the two that were meant to live.

All you can do is try and loving them even for a few hours is good for you and for them. Love is never wrong.

Good luck with all of them.

The last hatch i had under a broody had 2 eggs that needed help hatching, one i waited over 24 hours to hatch from pip and ended up helping it out a bit but the second one pipped but couldn't zip, fearing i would take it out of the egg too soon before the yolk was absorbed i set it back under mama and went to bed telling myself if it hadn't hatched by morning i would be extracting it from the egg. Next morning came along and still no sign of breaking out of there so i carefully chipped the outter shell away until it was just the membrane, the chick had pipped at the wrong end of the egg and hit a vein so there was alot of bleeding before i had even started helping, I broke out the flour and heated up the bathroom, kept the membrane wet and carefully got the chick out, dabbed flour on the area it was bleeding and kept it seperate until it gained strength. It couldn't lift its head or walk so i figured it wouldn't make it. I kept it next to my bed at 99 degrees all night and woke up the next morning to a happy healthy chirping chick standing upright. I put it back under mama and it is now a very healthy roo

. Sometimes you have to step in to help and take your chances in doing so, if the chick makes it that is great but sometimes they don't. You did your best and im sure the 2 surviving chicks are forever greatful. It is never easy to loose one.

Well, Lucky and Grateful are extremely chirpy this morning. They're both moving about the box, drinking water, and they seem to be doing well. I have to run to town, then I plan on grabbing some pics and moving them in with Mama. I really appreciate all the advice you guys gave, as well as the good wishes and prayers. I couldn't have done it without you all.
