Ok to start, and you may have done this you need some background on the geese,
where they came from?
how old?
what they were fed?
where they lived?
Access to what in their environment?
potential poisons?
sources of other birds?
other wildlife?
All this info may seem crazy, but if you talk to the vet they will ask this,
I would severly quaretine them, barrier nursing and all. bleach (10% solution) foot baths, I used cat littler trays, use to go in and out of the area, wear one pair of shoes for the quarentine and one for your other birds, use coveralls too. Only wear theses in the quarentine area.
Wash ona boil wash if soiled and be prepared to throw away...
Avoid any cross contamination, wash all food/ water bowls in 10% bleach solution.
It seems drastic, but necessary I think.
Parvo may live on clothing, don't take any chances, if this is the case.
Keep a symptom diary, I think all livestock owners should be keeping a livestock journal of breeds, source of stock, approx age, feeding, daily problems etc....changes in behavour. This will help the vet if you use one in the future.
Call and get a telephone consult to get ideas from the vet...this will just be the cost of a phone call...
Are the geese eating and drinking?
Have you provided cover form the sun?
Are you other birds showing symptoms
It is all of the new birds or just a few...more questions I know...
Does the giver of the birds have the same problem with other birds they own?
All you can do is watch, wait, and bear in mind if the birds are suffering... I know this doesn't seem like much help, but more info may help...but Im not a vet...just have a little expericence in sick animals...maybe there is a vet one here that can advise???
Anyone?
reply with your answers more info the better...Good Luck
