Quick Question for all the Ducky People here!

Ducks are great. Very hardly, like to forage, and they won't fly into trees to get away from you. Ducks arent bad. I'd try your creek out. I think if you lead them daily, they will follow happily.

Oh, don't get me wrong! I would love to have some ducks and probably will at some point. It's just that I need to have a little more free time to lead/herd them and to make sure I know what I'm doing with them. I have been considering turkeys also and I think they are closer to chickens (that's what I'm used to) and would take less drastic changes on my part. Yes, I love ducks. They are so sweet when they are little and they "wubble" you with their little bills!

You know, our ducks just get cheap kiddle pools. They don't need water other than water to drink though. They will still be fertile and happy in pen. I have several duck pens, and not all of them have a pool. They are still happy.

If you need/want eggs, stick with chickens (who lay well) or ducks (who lay well). Avoid meat breeds if you want many eggs.

I have turkeys too. They are more trouble, and don't lay much except right now in spring. The rest of the year, they are freeloaders (until thanksgiving, anyway). I just keep a few pairs to make more eggs, but we lost a male last year, and ate the other one, so I'm hatching new breeders now.
