so here is my question how do i know when my chick is ready to come out.. pls dont say when it does lol.. cause im kinda worried it seems like its been trying to get out since yesterday and its made little progress. like there are little series of cracks kinda looks like when you smash a window just before it shatters.. its been more than 24hrs is that bad?

Could i help it along by making a tiny opening hole by the shards of egg (not taking it out or anything)

*first time hatcher!! only 1 egg want it to survive

Make sure your humidity is around 70%, and give the chick a few more hours. If you really feel like it need it- break off some TINY pieces of shell around the pip and loosely wrap a warm wet paper towel around it. If the membrane dries out the chick will die before it hatches. Also- if you see ANY blood- stop! That means it hasn't finished absorbing the yolk. Good luck!

well i dont have an incubator i grew the egg with a desk lamp and towel.. its alive i can hear it. so i don't know the humidity.. how warm should the paper towel be because the membrane looks a litttle dry:(

You have to get some humidity in there. Try putting some warm wet washcloths and maybe sponges in the hatcher you made. Not boiling- just like lukewarm bath water temp. Some people will also mist the eggs with warm water too.

k thank you i put the egg in a warm moist paper towel and carefully picked a tiny portion of the shell off and now the chick is working to get it off i think i motivated him he i can see his beak with each peck

You just put an egg under a lamp to incubate it?! And it worked?! That's amazing. Please let us know how everything turns out, and I NEED to see a pic of your setup.
