Quiet bantam roosters?

I know this is a question that is hard to answer because it depends so much on the individual birds, etc., but I am looking to begin keeping chickens for the first time and am deciding what breeds to start with. I am allowed to keep chickens in my area, but I want to be considerate of my neighbors, especially as my coop will be alongside my house near to the property line with one neighbor. She is so sweet, she would never complain if I were setting off dynamite over here, but I want to keep things as quiet as possible. I don't have a lot of space, so I am looking at bantams; they will be for pets so egg production is not really an issue.

I know that the obvious answer is not to keep roosters in the first place, but I feel so bad for all the unwanted roos out there, and I want to get chicks so will probably end up with a rooster anyway...

I have been looking at silkies, cochins, and D'Uccles, but am having a hard time finding out any general info about loudness. I have used the BYC chicken selection tool and the My Pet Chicken selector tool, but they all give different answers!

Suggestions?

<*wiping tears of laughter away*> Quiet bantam rooster?

Good luck!

Hey, you gotta admit those bigger boys got more air than the bantam. My OEGB is "Quite" laughable compared to the RIR and BR I had before. Don't tell him I said that!

I had a silkie rooster that crowed all day long! Of course 3 of my neighbors have roosters, so they have crowing competitions with one another all the time. My silkie did not have as loud of a crow as my neighbors bigger boy, but he did his best.

Like chickenman98 I have Japanese bantams (Chabo) and the roosters are very quiet. Not only do they rarely crow, but when they do it is very soft. I used to have four Chabo roosters and if I got 3 or 4 crows out of the whole lot of them in a day, that would be considered a "major crowing day"!

I have a bantam silkie roo and when he crows it's only half as loud as a normal roo.
Then he only starts when i releas hem from his dark coop.
So he does crow, but i can manage when.
And most of the time he only crows after i let hin out for about an hour on and of and the rest of the day he is quit.
But if there is another roo close by that crows they will crow to eachother.
In my neighborehood i am the only one with a roo, so that aint a problem.
Good luck with your choise.
