Quilt Block Swap! All blocks have been mailed!

Memories are fun, aren't they? I still sleep under one of my grandmother's quilts, lots of fabrics from her and my past combined. I have several of her crazy patch potholders too...they are sadly very worn, but much loved.

I saved all of my kids flannel pj's to make a quilt from. It is one of those I will make someday but not today. LOL I also have one planned for some baby clothes I have kept. Those will most likely be smaller throws to snuggle on the couch with.

Your children will love the quilts from them. They are lucky to have someone that can save those memories for them.

ok i have read all 7 pages and still have a few questions........ is it set as to a 9 block pattern with any choice of fabric? the block sizes will be 121/2" x 121/2" to a finished 12 x 12. RIGHT? and where is the due date and how many? I would love to do this but am worried about how many i will have to make, the list looks as if you are having a great response. so someone please let me know before the dead line... ( like i don't have enough projects going on already)

A true deadline has not really been made. It was just to see how many responded by the end of this week. I am sure sometime over the weekend it will close for this session. You are right about the size and the number will be how many sign up by the end of the week. I think we are going with a country theme, not necessaraly chicken for say. You can make it as easy of a 9 block patern or as hard as you wish depending on you level of experience. I myself love doing the 9 block with a pinwheel effect. It will have to have a cut off soon though or we will all be making king sized quilts..lol I love this amount of response. GREAT IDEA MISS PRISSY!!!!!

AM I GETTING THIS RIGHT WE CAN MAKE ANY TYPE BLOCK WE WANT ? ORIGIANLLY I WAS THINKING OF APPLQUIE BUT NOW WITH THIS MANY PEOPLE I THINK IN MY CASE I WOULD HAVE A HARD TIME MEETING THE DEAD LINE. SO I GUESS ANY BLOCK TYPE IS ACCEPTABLE! AND BY COUNTRY THEMED YOU ARE MEANING COLOR WISE RIGHT MAYBE NOT JUST CROUNTRY PRINTS BUT COULD BE MIXED IN. I AM SORRY FOR ALL THE QUESTIONS BUT I REALLY DON'T WANT TO GET IN OVER MY HEAD!!!! AS I DO HAVE THREE KIDS ONE REQUIRES A LOT OF TIME AND DO TAKE CARE OF MY G'MA THAT HAS ALTIMERS(know the spelling is wrong sorry but i thnk you get it )

Hi, I am an intermediate quilter and I think a nine patch for the first swap is a great idea. I also think that using a neutral color for the other fabric is a good idea.

My thoughts: do a chicken material theme, use a neutral color for the other material such as beige, and keep it 12 1/2" X 12 1/2 " square-this would be fun and easy.

Then maybe next go around we could choose a harder block. A 9 patch is very easy for the beginning quilters wanting to participate in our swap!

Count me in. My machine was getting dusty and needs to get back to use. I like the idea of a nine block, since there are many beginners wanting to participate.

My idea for the quilt theme is a sampler with a country feel. The fabrics are to be kept to calico in a range of complimenting colors would be preferable. The fabrics should 100% cotton and prewashed.

There are quilters not interested in wildly farmed themed fabrics. To be truthful I am not either. There are many fabric with farm scenes printed on them and those fabrics I am not interested in. They are usually not 100% cotton and don't do well over time in a quilt.

The 9 patch is a good start so that beginners who might be intimidated by a more complicated project block can participate along with more advanced quilters. Those with more advanced skills could bring more intricate pieced blocks and applique to the swap. (I want to do an applique block myself.)

The blocks when ready to send to me should measure 12.5 inches by 12.5 inches so that a finish block on a quilt top would measure out to 12 by 12.

Those participating please list the the block design you have in mind and we can continue on from here.

I have really tried to take into consideration all of the requests and personal choices and ideas and hope we can continue with a unique and beautiful quilt marking how we have come together through something as simple as raising chickens and found like minded friends to enjoy more than just our chickens with.

Right now we have 21 participants that might drop to 20 or less.

Also, look for a sales paper for Joannes Fabrics. I had several 40% off coupons that I took shopping with me yesterday. I bought 100% natural cotton quilt batting in a queen sized package for $5.99 after all of my coupons and discounts. The sale ends on the 8th so think about that while you are planning what blocks you are wanting to do.
