Why have my girls quit laying ? It is Sept. 2nd. Temps are in the upper 80s to mid 90s.
Keeping them fed and watered. They roam the yard all day and go to the coup at nite.
I try and keep the coop clean, washing the poo out on Sat. Keep the run raked. And they stopped laying. I was getting 3 or 4 eggs a day. Now 1.
Can u help me.

! Is it a stop in laying or a dropoff? Some reasons might be:
1. Something stressful occurred - new chickens introduced and now they are re-establishing the pecking order. Or they had a scary encounter of some kind.
2, Birds going into molt...that will slow down egg production. Might be a little early for that, though...not sure where you live.

Another possibility - could they be laying, just not in the usual places? You mentioned the temps. Where I'm at it was a brutal summer and I was getting fewer eggs. That's when I stumble on hidden nest scattered about my property - some with 20 eggs!!! They didn't want lay in the hot hen house so they found a cooler place.

Just a couple of possibiliites...I'm sure there are others. Best of luck to you.

I agree with redsoxs' post. Look for hidden nests? I also found quite a few over the warmer months.
