quitting smoking

the chantix is amazing, my problem quitting is my stress level is so high. smoking is my crutch to get thru the stress. i will be trying again shortly and hopefully it will be "this time". i have decided 2008 is the year i will have a turn around and my life will be easier or atleast the stress level will drop.
it is the psychological addiction i cant break.

I quit with the patches about 15 years ago and would never smoke another one because my withdrawal so horrible. You are right, people don't realize unless they've been through it. That was the most awful experience I have ever put myself through. I couldnt even make a coherent sentence for 4 days. Hurt, ached, craved, grouched (worse than normal!)sick on my stomach, head hurt....really hard to function and craved one for ten years, had to really fight the urge hard for about 4 of those. Had to change my other behaviors too, no coffee for 6 months after I quit...and beer, forget that for about a year or you wont make it,lol!! Good luck, it aint easy

I would congradulate anyone that stops. I smoked for about 30 years and went smoke free 5 years ago. It was my health and I just stopped, no planning or cutting back. I finished off my last pack and went straight to the store for patches. It wasn't to bad for me and I hear that trying to quit is even harder than trying to stop taking drugs. I was lucky I didn't have a smoker in my house and I went through alot of dum dum suckers lol. Smoking is more of a oral fixaction than anything. Drinking alot of water helps too. I didn't gain much about 10 lbs I guess. But since I quit I haven't been sick much either and I don't catch cold as often. There has been times when I have been under stress I kill for a cigerette, but I never had another one and I have been smoke free for 5 years now. Isn't it nice when ya go to the Drs. and they ask do you smoke and you can actually say no and don't have to hear the lectures. I am not a rabid anti smoker and I don't harp on those who do. It is alot easier now cause so many places are smoke free.
