Thank you! It's been -7 in the coop and no issues. I think having the metal pan upside down and a cookie tin heater on it, underneath really helps keep the nipples from freezing. I can and have unplug the cookie tin when temps get up in the 20's and it's been good with just the pipe heater wrapped around the bucket. I have no water heater inside the water. I was afraid of 1) overheating in the water, 2) Aquarium heater's glass breaking and 3) the amount of electricity used by the tank deicers. Since the pipe heater has a thermostat built in and is on the outside of the bucket and not in the water I've had none of those issues.

Ok great thanks for the feedback. Ours will be in their enclosed run, which is only tarped and they will be exposed to the elements. Thus we will ne running these heaters, built by a local company in Colorado. These heaters are specifically designed for buckets both metal or plastic and have built in thermostats.

My 2 cents: we have been down to -25 and no issues. Mine is inside coop with a small deicer. I just take a 2 gal bucket with warm water out every other morning and dump it in and then collect my eggs.

Yeah, thanks for the feedback as well.

We looked at those type but the watts started at 500. My watts total for my set up is 33 to 78 depending on wether i use a 25, 40 or 60 watt bulb in the tin. DSO would not like high watts. Already complains about oudoor lights I use. LOL.
