Thank you! It's been -7 in the coop and no issues. I think having the metal pan upside down and a cookie tin heater on it, underneath really helps keep the nipples from freezing. I can and have unplug the cookie tin when temps get up in the 20's and it's been good with just the pipe heater wrapped around the bucket. I have no water heater inside the water. I was afraid of 1) overheating in the water, 2) Aquarium heater's glass breaking and 3) the amount of electricity used by the tank deicers. Since the pipe heater has a thermostat built in and is on the outside of the bucket and not in the water I've had none of those issues.
My 2 cents: we have been down to -25 and no issues. Mine is inside coop with a small deicer. I just take a 2 gal bucket with warm water out every other morning and dump it in and then collect my eggs.
