One other thing you didn't mention, and I don't know if the doctors did either - was that sometimes the drugs they use for kids with cancer can cause drug induced glaucoma. It happened to my little 7 year old niece, who is fighting leukemia. As soon as she told her mom that her eyes hurt, they took her in to her oncologist and got a consult for an opthamologist. He measured the pressures and put her on some eye drops...problem totally resolved in no time flat. They said some kids react like this and others don't. Now they schedule an eye appointment when they start a new round of chemo. It's a temporary thing, but pretty uncomfortable for the kids if it goes unchecked. Not trying to scare you, just letting you know that sometimes it happens and if it does there's no need to panic - it's not an unusual thing and it is really easily handled. Seems to happen more with kids who are rounds of steroids with their chemo. Still praying for Kyle and family!Thank you for your continuing prayers!! Kyle update from about an hour ago:
Well today was Kyle's scheduled first day of chemo. Instead we had 30 minutes of confusion and frustration. Long story short... The hospital got results and wanted to start treatment right away. Unfortunately it was a holiday weekend so nothing was processed with our pediatrician which resulted in no referrals. So no chemo today. The only thing we did was meet with the doctor about his treatment plan and the drugs that will be used. Overall, the take away from the doctor was that he has just over a 95% chance of full recovery and zero long term effects. The other take away is that Kyle will have other prescriptions to take that we didn't really think of like nausea medicine and anti-infection medicine. In addition one side effect is nerve pain where he might need a higher pain killer medicine. That was a little shocking but manageable.
Assuming all insurance needs get taken care of in the next couple days... Kyle's first chemo treatment will now be Thursday... Which he is happy about because this was the easiest doctor visit ever for him.
We will keep you posted.
