Commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-Day

My neighbor, now departed was in the D-Day invasion in 1944.
I remember talking with him about it. He didn't mind my questions.
His job was being a Medic.
Not only was he fighting the enemy,,,, but carrying away the wounded. You had to be standing and running to carry the wounded. That made you an easier target than if you were laying flat on the ground.
In the picture above,, I can just see him.😢

my dad was in the second wave hitting omaha beach. Said the first wave was green recruits for cannon fodder.
He was a sniper later because he grew up hunting squirrels with a rifle. Never hunted after he came back. Said a dying rabbit sounded like the men when a hand grenade was dropped into a tank.
Had nightmares the rest of his life.
