R.i.p Miley <3

Or raccoon. They will pull them through a fence and pull off the head. They will also get into the coop and pull off the heads. So sorry for your loss. It is very sad. Don't beat yourself up. It happens all the time and it is not reasonable for you to expect to be there watching at all hours of the day and night. It is part of nature. Make sure your others are protected... smaller wire, filling any possible holes, etc. Try to make it a learning experience.

I was very frustrated after a baby I assisted hatch and kept safe and made sure was happy and healthy as at 6 weeks I could only watch a hawk carry it away for dinner. I know it does not feel good!

but im in trouble because its not even snowing yet and its ment to at the end of this week, they will be back soon

i just hope i dont find another dead tommorow

it happens.. you cannt beat yourself up with what if-s.. but that doesnt bring her back..
i understand how you feel i do the same thing and what im saying is easyer said than done..
there has been so many things i have what if-ed
what if i had left that bucket of water out of the turkeys pen. what if i got up faster when the dogs where barking,
im sorry for your loss and its a darn shame shes gone but ITS NOT YOUR FALT!!!!
dont beat your self up over it. keep her in your heart and move on from it

PLEASE!!! dont take this as insencitive i dont mean at all for it to be.. but youll just keep your self in anger if you dont move on,
anger at yourself and whomever took you beloved miley from you.. and thats not healthy.. put her in a box and burry her in the ground say a prayer.
im so so so sorry i just lost a duck (my pride and joys) a couple weeks ago and i did the same thing.. i shouldnt have let her out i should have taken my dogs out (they sometime warn me somethings up) but in the end i know it wasnt my falt.

even the smallest of pets can have a huge inpact in our lives and it makes us better because of it

what evere killed her, killed her through the day so when i go tommorow im going to take my dog with me but i dont know if i can bring my self to let him kill it if i see it

Good luck. I hope you find what killed her. Don't feel too responsible - you've given so many hens a better life, and leaving them to run around sure beats staying stuck in a battery cage and then being culled at 18 months. You are an amazing chicken champion!

Thanks to both of you, im just hoping it wont come at all this year...

Rip Miley one year today, all my hens are safe so far! Let's hope it stays that way!
