R.I.P Percy, my sweet blue silkie roo.
I went out to the pen this morning and found him dead. He'd been dead for some time, stiff as a board, but still warm, since the hot sun was glaring down on his hard, stiff body. He had food, water, shade. I don't know why he died. He was still a baby. I guess it must've been the lice. I had treated him before I went to bed, being careful not to let him breathe the DE, which is what I was treating him with. When I found him, I held him in my arms and sobbed. My tears were soaking his feathers. I sat on a stump and cried and begged the Lord to give him a second chance. I sobbed until I had a throbbing head ache, and finally dug a hole to bury him. Then I stacked some of the pretty marble and sandstone rocks on top of his grave. I guess this is the consequences when you sleep in late and don't get up to take care of your animals. His water had only been a little, and it was very hot. I found him dead in his water pan because he must've been desperate for water. He suffered because of me.
If I had only gotten up an hour earlier, and checked on him then. This is the consequence of laziness. It was not worth the extra sleep in exchange for Percy's life. Please do not comment on how I am a bad chicken mom. I already feel like crap. R.I.P Percy, my sweet boy.
