Can anyone help me with info on the difference in these to breeds in egg production? Or is it the same?

Are we talking Hatchery or Breeder stock?

Chris

Breeder stock, preferable from someone here on BYC, but if I had to will get hatchery.

They are supposed to be two separate breeds, not two varieties of the same breed. I have never raised them.

R.I. Reds and R.I. Whites are different breeds.
R.I. Red come Rose and Single comb
R.I. White come Rose comb only. ( Hatcheries sell a single comb White bird that they call a R.I. White but it is no more a R.I. White than a EE is a Ameraucana )

As for egg production a lot has to do on the line ( who you are getting them from ). If bred well both breed should lay very well..
The best thing to do is talk to the breeder and see what there line is like. I know my Reds (single and rose combs) lay very well averaging around 5 to 6 eggs per week per hen.

Nice explaination Chris, a lot of people think RIRs and RIWs are the same breed and that RIWs can have single combs just becuase RIRs do. And there is about as big of difference in Breeder/Show quality RIRs and RIWs and hatchery quality Production Reds and Whites as there is between the the EEs and Ameraucanas.

Thanks evereyone for the great info. I know that they are different breeds and that the single comb is not a true r.i.w. I guess I didn't explain myself good enough and for that I am sorry, totally my fault. What I was looking for was to compare the rose comb r.i.w. to the single comb r.i.r. for egg production and all purpose backyard chicken. Or someone who currently has a flock of these who will kindly share their thoughts and experiences with us here on BYC.
