What it boils down to is "Know Thine Forum"
Any pet forum, the forum animal is sacred. I've been to rabbit forums that you wouldn't DARE mention even that some people eat rabbit, much less then you do (heartless murderer!!! do you eat babies too!!)
LOL, for example, what with this being a chicken forum, I dare anyone here to go up to the breeders and hatcheries section and ask "What hatchery has the best/cheapest Marans?" And watch the pandemonium commence. I promise that at least 7 out of 10 posters will tell you to go to X or Y breeder to buy $50 a dozen hatching eggs and to do anything else is just , well, dumb. (meant nicely, love you guys)
Because people come here who are SERIOUS about chickens. So they assume that anyone coming here is or is getting SERIOUS about chickens and wants birds to The Standard. It's not about the purchase price of the critter (both my current dogs were free, so were all of my cats, I could have a dozen more of each tomorrow at the same price... and there is no price at which you could have mine)
If you want advice from people who assume you know how to use vet wrap and check for a broken bone, you need to ask on a livestock forum. At a pet forum (regardless of the pet, I went to a pigeon forum for info on keeping racers one time ...
... do you know what an avian vet COSTS??? Ooops, it was a pet forum, not a racing one) You are going to be an evil, heartless, cruel person who should not be entrusted with the care of a poor, helpless, innocent creature if you don't drop everything and take the day off work and run to a specialist for everything.
Really, with years of rabbit keeping; Feel along the leg, does the rabbit flinch hard, go limp or squeal? Do you feel a break? Do the joints, when gently flexed, seem to move as they should? Feel the toes. Rabbits are pretty prone to pulling a muscle or straining something while bounding around the cage. They can easily get a toe caught in the bottom wire, leap and there you have it, pull, sprain, broken toe. Not uncommon.
If you don't feel any broken bones, if the joints are working, then put him in a smaller cage or wrap the leg (either will discourage motion) for a couple of days. If there is a break above the toe (a broken toe is nothing) , or a joint won't flex, then it's more serious. Vet or eat.
