But that might be an old wives tale.. Thats why fall through winter they are in season.. supposedly.

People may not hunt them in spring and summer because all of their energy and fat reserves have gone into making babies and by fall they are nice and fat again.

Well I just noticed that rabbits have chewed my nanking cherry bushes down to stubs,so I told dh I MUST get a gun. I have been tending those things for 3 years with no issue, and would have had cherries this summer.

I can safely shoot, but people will SEE me shooting and might report me..My elderly neighboor across the street says he has shot rabbits with his pellet gun. Will have to ask him what he uses.

Not sure what I will do with the dead rabbits. I doubt the hawk would eat them, but the turkey vultures will. I just want them gone. As soon as I can I will be letting the dogs patrol the yard early am and pm.Guess I better worm the dogs a few times this summer!

alot of them have worms in the spring/summer.The cold weather and diet change in winter tend to kill off the worms and fatten them. I let my boys shoot them with their bows as we drive into our hunting property. They are all over the roads. Tasty too
