Rabbit people - how often do you breed your doe?

Depends on the breed. Also, keep in mind once you breed her you run the risk of her not being competitive on the show table.

Anyway, for a compact/fancy breed - you can do 3 litters per year if you are done showing her and she's granded/registered (can't register if she goes overweight or develops a breed DQ due to pregnancy like a dewlap).

If you hope to be able to show her again to finish her off - don't. Just wait till she grands out.

For a commercial type breed that is from a commercial producing strain, you should be able to get 5 - 6 litters per year.

I have a question for you - she was bred before I got her and she raised that litter and went on to win 2 more legs. Does this mean that she bounces back well, or is each pregnancy different? Thanks!!!!

It means she bounces back well. I'm curious about which breed. A mini rex will come back much better than a Netherland Dwarf. Same with a Jersey Wooly.

Shes a REW french angora. That is good news! Thanks!

Although breeding only 2x per year isn't an uncommon practice, it can bring about fertility issues. Like others have mentioned, my meat rabbits are bred around day 40 after kindling which gives about a 2 week break between processing/weaning and kindling.

I'm new at rabbit breeding but I bred mine about the same time I weaned the first litter... when the kits were 7 weeks old. I do plan to wait until it cools down a bit to breed her again. Maybe at the end of September and then I will probably wait until early spring to breed again. So I guess that would be about 4 litters in a year.

Ah, yeah, that is a commercial type rabbit. They are supposed to be oblong shaped for show. Luckily since they are a heavy breed with commercial type you won't have to worry.

I was thinking more along the lines of Mini Rex, Polish, ND, JW, Holland Lop, petites, etc;

No she doesn't need to be round like they do. She already looks really good and the kits are just a week old.
