Rabbit questions

Carrots are like candy to rabbits. They're fine in moderation, but I definitely wouldn't feed them every day! A baby carrot or a small slice as a treat is fine, but don't give them a whole carrot, or they might get sick!

I don't believe that i have had rabbits over 12 years and never heard it

I had rabbits as a child, have some now, and my son's school for the past 4 years has them, with 2 veterinarian parents advising on their care. Carrots are very high in sugar and are not good for rabbits in large amounts. They love them of course, but just like kids who love candy and would eat it all day long with little noticeable damage, that doesn't mean it's good for them. We give bunnies the leafy carrot tops with a bit of the carrot still attached, and a couple baby carrots once in a while as treats. They are high in carbs (sugars) and very low in fiber. They are treats, not healthy like greens.

Too many carrots=too much sugar=diabetes. Pickiness is another thing, as is obesity and also diarrhea.

Poor Walter, only carrots in moderation got it! I will have to pick up some veggies for him at the store tomorrow, do they enjoy fruits? I dont feed my chickens apples, but i do feed them mellons sometimes, strawberries and of course the love blueberries, I feel so new to the rabbit scene!

As far as bedding he has timothy hay in the bottom of his cage as of right now, do i need to put anythin else down for him? What if he gets cold.

Fruit is sort of the same boat as carrots with the sugar.
Mine for bedding have wood shavings. Don't worry about it being too cold. My rabbits stay outside (they have a "rabbit barn" that is insulated however prefer being outside) they stay out even in really cold weather. When it was minus 30 celcius I had to force them to stay in the barn and block off their door to the outside or else they would have been out in that weather, crazy bunnies. He'll be just fine

I was born and raised in SW PA, where winters get pretty darn cold (below 0 in Jan/Feb is pretty normal) and I still felt bad about my new baby bunnies I got in the beginning of Jan. I have a 3 sided barn, no 4th side, no door, just open. Seems to be the norm down here in NC. They were fine! I did cover their cages with hay and a blanket, but I don't think they really needed it.

My question is..How do you tell if your rabbit likes you? Walter is so calm, and I think he enjoys my company but he's so hard to read, hah i know this is odd because he is a rabbit but still!
