Raccoon attack - broken ankle

In the Brooder

I was away from home yesterday and left the hens inside rather than let them free-range. However, one must have slept in my attractive-nuisance chick brooder coop the night before, because at midnight last night I heard something attacking. (I use a cheap baby monitor for coop audio at night).

I found her in my chick brooder with only minor injuries other than a broken ankle. Looking at my camera, she tried to get back into the coop at dark, but ended up in the brooder, where a raccoon found her less than a minute before the dog and I made it out the door. She's my favorite hen, and I'd love to save her, but I'm going to be away on vacation next week and will have to leave her with a not-very-poultry-knowledgable friend to heal.

I have the joint splinted - she's inside in a wire dog kennel with food and water in reach, and doesn't seem to be in pain (although she cannot stand on that foot due to the way it's splinted). Does anyone have advice? My choices are:
1) better/more usable splint, monitor her until I leave Sunday and if she seems okay leave her with my friend; or
2) euthanize her now

I've read that broken joints often heal frozen, and it seems extremely loose, so is trying option 1 just cruel?
