Raccoon attack! Help!

I just checked on her again. Her chest was wet and I assumed it was from her water dish. No, there’s a cavity in her chest that wasn’t there yesterday. Is it her crop? Will it heal? Should I put her down too?

Can you take her to a vet tomorrow am? Look to see if the crop is mildly torn or if it looks like it is too damaged to sew up. The crop is a pouch with a layer of skin beneath the skin, so 2 layers that need to be closed. Superglue or stitches are sometimes used to close each separate layer.

Ok, here’s a better picture. The hole is small, but I’m not sure if it’s her crop, because it seems to be on the wrong side? The stuff on the left it intact skin, just dirty, and there is a small cavity on the right

Is it better to just put her out of her misery so she doesn’t have to be in pain? If it was just the neck or just the crop I could do it, but I’m not sure I can do all of it at once. She seems pretty lethargic, she’s not eating anymore. I feel really bad for her... it’s got a weird smell to it too. It’s not strong like a wound infection or rotten smell, but it’s a noticeable smell.

something like happened to a dog I had. He was attacked by another dog and seemed fine for several days but then I came home and found him still alive but barely in a pool of blood. It seems the other dogs tooth went into his neck forming a little pocket. Nothing came out of it until it filled with blood. Somehow my vet saved him.

I’m not saying this is what happening to you hen but penetrating wound can be hard to determine from the outside.

Well, it sounds like putting her down might be the best thing for her if you cannot take her to a vet or repair it yourself. That is up to you. It sounds like it is getting infected. Do you think that all of the things she has eaten and drunk has come out of the hole in her crop? It is hard to know if the hole is small or large. If it could be repaired, and you could get some antibiotics to treat her, she might have a chance, but this is going on almost 2 days now. The feathers around her crop could be removed to make it easier to see the damage in case it is able to be sewn closed. Feed stores sell Fish Mox amoxicillin sometimes, and injectable penicillin as well. Let me know if you need dosages. Sorry about your hen.
