Ok, she’s really liking the egg. I don’t think I will separate them, they’re all doing so well together and I don’t want to stress her. Her chest isn’t wet anymore either. I dont think I will do anything more than some vetricyn, because I don’t want to irritate it. She’s acting almost like a normal chicken again! :gig Her feathers are still blue under her chin, and are hanging funny, but it’s healing and she’s getting food and water down. I’m hopeful now that we’re out of the woods and on the road to recovery.

No, but I check to make sure. They don’t look any worse. I did spray her with a ton of vetricyn, because it had the smell of an infection just starting to kick in. I rubbed the triple antibiotic ointment on all the wounds too. By her wing there is a purplish green spot on her skin that’s about 2 inches long and wide. There’s no scrapes around it, and I medicated the skin on it too just to be sure. It is near her small wing injury, is this just a bruise? It doesn’t look like anything more than that, I just want to be safe. All I’m afraid of now is some sudden infection, but I’m keeping it as clean as possible.

Green skin is usually bruising. If you are smelling infection serting in, it might be better to clean her with chlorhexidene and water. Hibiclens is the brand name and you can find it at Walmart in the first aid aisle. It mixes with water and rinses off with water. Instead of that Betadine can be used. Those are a bit stronger than the Vetericyn. An antibiotic might also be good. Feed stores sell injectable penicillin with syringes and needles, but I would look for Fish Mox (amoxicillin) at TSC. Dosage of that is 1 capsule (250mg) twice a day.

I have access to those two antibiotics immediately if I need them, but only if they’re able to be injected via shot. I’ve never given a shot to a chicken, so I’m not sure how I would do that... I will be back to check on her in the morning, and if the smell is any worse or the same I will go get the stuff you suggested. If it seems to be fine with what’s on it I’ll probably leave it. It really smells like it just started to barely set in, so I might have caught it in time to treat with vetricyn. Thanks, you eased my mind on the bruise.

Will colloidal silver help stop infections? I know it’s good for tooth infections, and we used it on our dog when she had an ear infection. It can be applied to a wound and orally. I’m worried that if I give her antibiotics her eggs will be tainted
