Last night a raccoon got into my Grandfathers chickens. It killed two of them, at least, I know one is dead, the other has been taken. Another is also hurt. As soon as I found them I examined all the birds and moved the hurt one inside so the others wouldn't peck it and the flies would not bother her. She has two wounds, one beneath her right wing, about two by two in. and another smaller wound that is more shallow beneath the left wing towards the wings front. I have rinsed both with saline and have put anti-bacterial ointment on them. I also wrapped both in gauze and have put her in a small pen and offered her water. I plan to change the gauze and clean the wound out with saline every couple of hours...
Is there anything else I can do?
Have I done anything wrong?
Any advice is appreciated greatly,
Thank you.

I rinsed the comb with saline a couple of times and it is doing fine. If anyone is out there, have you any opinion on weather or not I should keep the wounds covered on her side or uncovered?

It would depend on the size of the wound. Put some Neosporin on the wounds. As long as others aren't pecking at it and it's not bleeding, she should be fine with them uncovered.

I had a chick get injured. It was a large gaping wound by her neck and wing. I cleaned it and kept Neosporin on it 2-3 times a day for 2 weeks. I also kept her inside an extra week after stopping the neo, away from the others and flies. She healed nicely and has been reintroduced. Only 1 of the chicks plucks at the scab occasionally but she has been fine. Good luck!

Okay. I may try Neosporin, depending on how she is. The wounds look pretty good and I have been treating them well. She is easting a little and drinking. I am leaving the wound uncovered for a while to see how she gets along. As I said before, I have separated her from the rest and put her in a place away from flies and other things that may bother her. She may start pecking at herself though and if that happens I will probably cover the wounds up again.
Thank you for your advice.
