Update: My girl appears to be through the worst of it. Although she is not eating a lot, she is eating and I *finally* got her to drink some water late last night.
She's a bit crabby and not her usual self, but she is mostly staying quiet and calm. Oddly enough, the things I bought for her yesterday since my chicken treat section was running low, (raisins, oatmeal, yogurt...2 kinds!) and what does she really want to eat? Some cake I bought as a last minute decision. It must be the super-sweet thing that attracts her, it's also fluffy and easier for her to pick up. I can tell she is going to have a few days adjusting to a shorter beak. She keeps aiming wrong and missing her food, until I got the cake out. It's spongey enough that she grabs it. I've tried scrambled egg 4x, cottage cheese... not much of an appetite, but I am not too concerned since she is eating. She "winces" quite often while eating, so as that subsides I feel confident she'll be just fine.
It was a huge relief that she drank some water, and after reading other forums I think as long as I keep her inside, (it's only 27 outside right now...) she should be okay. It may take a few weeks to heal all the way though.
I will post a photo or two, and update this when she is healed in order to help others later. As I said at the beginning, I am so thankful for this site or I would have been a nervous wreck.
Thank you to everyone who answered me on this thread!!!
I really appreciate it.
I am so happy yesterday is over. Whew. Maybe chicky-momma can get some decent sleep now? Doubtful!
It was 27 degrees a few minutes ago when I just checked, and I am crossing my fingers that no other ladies have a health issue anytime soon.
