The coons around us will just pull the heads off our chickens and leave. They do not eat them. They even leave the heads laying there.
One of our neighbors was live trapping them and bringing them to the outskirts of a small town on the mainland (we live on an island). He later learned a friend in that town was trapping coons and bringing them out to the island to release them.
Our local animal control told us to just kill them. They said they are all inbred and diseased and if we take them elsewhere o release them, we will be spreading the diseases and genetic disorders. We finally just coon proofed our run and coop. Problem is human error. every once in a while someone forgets to latch something and we find our friends of the day before with detached heads it is sad and sickening. I hate coons. At least hawks and eagles and coyotes and foxes carry them off to eat and do not just rip their heads off and leave them. I have to admit I secretly rejoice every time I see a dead coon in the road.
