I am new to chickens. We live in the country and decided to get the cute little yellow chicks that were at our local farm store. Now the chicks are 8 coming 9 weeks old. Not so little anymore! And has exploded since then!
On June 7th a raccoon got into our chicken coop. That is something I NEVER want to experience again! The female raccoon got away with 2 of our Cockrel Americana crosses and she was stopped with one of our white hens (I'm embarrassed! I don't ever know what kind of bird she was!)
That same morning. I found that 2 of my white chickens had been injured in the ordeal. Of course they are my favorite hen (Ida) and rooster (Chuck). Ida has a very large wound on her back. Right between her wings. And Chuck has several scratch marks and a small bite mark under his wing. Chuck's scratch marks are turning green! And he and Ida will not let me wash the wounds with plain water anymore. I did put them on an antibiotic the same day as the "raid". I read on the internet that you can use Wonder Dust ( I know what this product is. I own horses. It's a great product for them) on chickens. Anyone have advice on what I can do?
