Raccoon??

All good ideas.
Another cat proof bait is peanut butter.
Good Luck.
I've mentioned before, now is when the baby raccoons are being weaned, and Momma takes the whole bird back as part of the lesson.

i can only attest for the Coon Dagger. this is from a previous post i put i a different thread
..
i know this is an old thread but i have found a great trap . i have just begun my own lil fowl farm and ran into a problem. i realize your issues are of a greater size than possum and coons but for the small types (especially nice if u have dogs, because it is dog proof) it is called Coon Dagger. i actually met the man who helped create it. he is a professional trapper. odd story is i was getting my hair cut at the local bar (yes hair cut in a bar, pretty cool.) and i ran into him as i asked the barber if coons have a good sense of smell or do they rely on their site.

i had already purchased the dagger and had it in place when i spoke to him. he heard what i was using and informed my that when setting traps in N. America he has found that canned Mackerel and dried Cherry jello powder. mix one can for one box on a jar and add Buck Lure ( a scent for attracting deer ) anyhow. i have caught 1 possum and 2 coons in 4 nights with this setup.
..

the cheapest mackerel is at Dollar General. i think its about 1.50. where as the big grocer has it around 4 bucks.

i have been using three traps and in about 2 months i have caught over a dozen coons alone. no cats. and i have cats lurking as well. they get a different set of circumstances as i refuse to shoot a cat. neighbors would frown on their little kittens going missing so i trap them and return them to owners warning them. that they could be mistaken for a coon in the dark and will be dealt with in a less forgiving manner.

the trap is less than 20.00 and works PERFECTLY

Ohhhh! love the marshmallow idea...might as well try it...plenty of raccoons to practice with!
