Raccoons are horrible-slaughtered 30+ birds

I did actually ask around and it seems coon pelts arent in high demand right now.

After dispensing of Coon #1, I have been thinking about the whole scenario. They carelessly slaughtered 33 animals. Strewn across 2 acres. It looked like a massacre scene. I do have feelings for the Raccoons BUT these are my ending feelings on the whole matter:

#1 They decided their fate by being so very ruthless and wasteful

#2 I will not catch and release this predator for someone else to deal with

#3 As with nasty Roosters, dogs, etc, do we really want this type of genetics continuing through new generations?

I had someone say to me today "that is a mean thing to do (killing it) you should bring it up the mountain and let it go"

Are you kidding me!

Are you serious or is this tongue in cheek?

Raccoons being able to reason and knowing that if they are wasteful and ruthless they are sealing their fate.

You are embarking on improving the genetics of the raccoon population?

LGD - Livestock Guardian Dogs -- There are many available for rescue. National Anatolian Shepherd Rescue -- The organization will tell you if they are working dogs or not.

Most predators will come back later for their kill if they are permitted to. By then though the bodies have either been disposed of and the pens secured, or the predator has been trapped or killed. I dislike predators as much as the next person and I will kill them on sight but they are not as wasteful as what it appears.

Hey dacjohns, are those your wings in your pic?

Never mind, I read your signature and you indicate that they are yours. So, consider this an acknowledgment to your service.

Good job catching and killing the destructive varmit!

I'm glad to hear you didn't fall for that crap! That sounds like something an animal activist would say. People who feel that way have no understanding of farming or the stewardship of protecting your livestock. They often live in the protective bubble of suburbia and think their eggs and chicken meat come in a package from a grocery store.

While it's true that a raccoon is just being a raccoon, they are destructive to your flock. It's either kill them or they'll continue to kill your animals. It's an easy choice.
