Raccoons vs Zip Ties: Who wins?

The coop is done and the "bigs" (still pullets) are in. I reinforced the hardware cloth seems with strips of hardware cloth and reinforced all attachments with the stainless steel zip ties. The jclips turned out to be completely useless and a waste of money. The tool that closes them up does not fit into 1/2" hardware cloth. Stainless zips are the way to go. I covered half the coop with a tarp and the other half is covered in translucent plastic sheeting. The deep litter is done and now all I should have to do is maintain. One of my birds died a few days ago for no apparent reason (found her dead where they've been sleeping in the morning), which is a bummer as she was one of my egg layers (a buff brahma) and one of the more friendly chicks. I have them all on Corid right now just in case. Figures. I have them in the house for nearly two months and they are fine. Put them all outside and *blammo*. Sigh. I didn't do a necropsy and am just hoping it was a rogue staple or something. Everyone is fine and they all seem very happy in their new digs.

Their roost/nest area is a repurposed shelving thing we had. I don't know if I like it. If it doesn't work out I'll need to figure out something different.

Right now they all sleep on the bottom of it with the pine shavings, in the right side corner.
