Rain and chickens

I let mine out into the run even on windy storm days. Mine don't mind a bit of rain, but they do get sick of it after a few hours and stop running around playing. They can go back into the coop if they want to, but they usually just hang out in the covered part of the run huddling together around the food bowl.

Digger - where are you in southern MN? My DS lives near Jackson (Petersburg) and I haven't had a chance to ask him today how much rain they got. We're north of there about 3 hrs on the SD border. As far as your chickens in the rain - mine don't mind a light rain or drizzle, but they head for cover if it gets heavy. They usually go under the coop. Some of them like to wade in the puddles. I hope the rain quits for you down there. I don't know what you do for a living, but we farm and I feel so bad for the farmers in your area today.

Just a update we got only a little less than 4" last night. Today about 1.5" so a whole bunch. I let the chicken out this morning, boy did they have fun for a while. I think the eggs will taste like worms tomorrow. LOL. I am in Mankato about 50 some miles from Jackson. They got aroun 10" it sounded like. I am a retired Pipefitter but drive city bus part time for extra cash. I just moved out here in the country for the first time in my life in Oct. Had to try chickens the first summer. Next summer who no's. Sounds like farmers will be behind about 2 weeks if it gets nice now. Fields have a bunch of water in them now

Thanks for the update. Jackson got around 6". I think the heavier stuff was east of you. My friend in Red Wing said they got 9". LOL about your eggs tasting like worms.
