Rain and Killer Caterpillars in the Old Fool's Spanish Village

Thanks, Turney31, I've learned something today. Bucket list. Much better than what we Brits say - which is just 'Things To Do Before I Die'. I wonder why 'bucket'?

Yes, my avatar is my book.

Pretty sure those caterpillars are Tussock moths, also known as Tent Caterpillar moths.

Different from the Gypsy moth found notoriously in FL.

I have heard the expression "kick the bucket" my whole life and I always knew it was a funny way of saying to die. There was a movie with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nickolson titled "The Bucket List". Both men were dying and they made a list of things to do before they died. BTW GREAT MOVIE!!! Really not morbid at all, and really funny. So Victoria you got me wondering where the saying started. This is what I found out although I'm not totally buying the answer.

Thanks willkatdawson for the explanation.

Victoria,
If I had been paying attention I would have seen book info in signature line. Thanks for your kind response any way. I dearly love chickens, mules and I am 50,so this book may end up on display in my home! Looking forward to finding it. Hows Geronimos donkey? I know it is silly but I have thought of your walk many times since reading your post. My Dad was in the marines stationed in Spain many years ago. I don't remember where but he always sang its praises. Well my supper is about ready so i'll check back later.

.....Alan.

Saddlebacks drive me nuts. I swear they look like something my kids made at the craft table with pipe cleaners and a bit of fabric. It just doesn't look real!

I'm reminded of a video I saw some time back of a puss caterpillar:

Creepy little bugger, eh?

Hello Willkatdawson,

Yes, I'm very familiar with 'kicked the bucket'. In England we say that a lot, as well as 'pushing up daisies' and 'turned up his toes' and 'snuffed it'. All mean to die. So I suppose that makes sense, having a 'bucket list'. It could have been a 'daisy list', I guess.

Hello Turney31,

Nice to meet another fan of chickens and mules in my age bracket!

Geronimo's donkey is fine, thank you. He's our alarm clock in the morning and has plenty to say for himself during the day. Luckily he gets on well with the village mule, who shares a two-room cottage with Uncle Felix. Chickens and mule in one room, Uncle Felix in the other. Uncle Felix is a retired goatherd and can neither read nor write, but he's a sprightly 85 or so and his mule adores him.

I'm so glad your dad has happy memories of Spain. We love living here in this tiny village. Beautiful scenery and the villagers are utterly charming.

Hope you had a good supper,

Victoria
