raising a short faced pigeon from hatch?

@biophiliac yeah I didn't know if it was thing either. And I shall refrain from introducing, his parents seem to be beginning to brood so this will be a good way to see if their abandonment of the nest previously was just a fluke, or something else. On the other hand tiny has progressed fine on feeding schedule wise and has extended to a meal per 3 hrs just as advised so I suspect though I see little physical change, he is progressing at a acceptable pace. I would like to know when he can lower his temps though. Currently we're at 35C which is still gonna be a slight challenge to keep him when out of the brooder in a heated carrier.

Alright so currently we wiegh in at around 6 grams and taking up to 3ml of food a feeding every 3hr. Thickend the consistency some from a creamy liquid to a almost baby food consistency and gotten much more regular bathroom times on the up side as well

I've never heard of a constipated pigeon, adult or baby.


I think it unwise to introduce the baby to the nest.

On the facebook groups I read several instances where pigeons adopted chicks placed in their nests.

I have no doubt that is true. I still would be hesitant with this pair that are not proven to be good parents. I might try something like that with Doo and his mate...
Perhaps OP will want to try it.

@Serin Biophiliac is correct plus his hen is well versed in being nasty when I come near her nest at all, much less a tiny pink squirmy thing easily grabbed and shaken. I'm actually fairly confident my second pair may of adopted the baby but they only started official nest building this week so no way there's crop milk to feed with much less and egg to swap out and trick them with. But had the circumstances been right I'm fairly confident they would've. Just bad luck I guess as a update baby slept through the entire night WILLINGLY! ate dinner at 8 and slept all night till this morning when I filled him up. We're still ate 6grams wieght wise though and eyes still haven't opened officially. I've seen blinks and cracked lids but we've yet to open them consistently. The avg is to open at day 5 no? That was yesterday...

You may try that second pair. Pigeons can produce crop milk at any time! Single pet birds without nests or mates have adopted orphans and been able to feed them within the hour.

Im not sure having never done it with pigeons but I've read several successful anecdotes. One was with a very feisty male pigeon that was imprinted to people and kept as a pet. They just showed him the baby and he immediately sat on it and adopted it on the spot.

If I were you I would just set him in the nest and supervise. If they respond poorly this early slip him under the hen at night as soon as she begins to brood eggs.

@Serin ok I may or may not try this evening, I put a fake egg in to thier nest and they eyed it but didn't seem interested so I may wait. If I still had my original male Homer FJ, I would hand the baby over to him! He'd brood anything, mate or not! Also up to 4 grams of feed in our tiny body now as we wieghed 10grams post this feeding, I'm sure he could take around a ml more but I don't have the proper hose size for a syringe feeding. Still haven't seen any huge size difference although we are bigger than when hatched and our legs are now pretty proportional, and we show signs of grooming mannerisms post meals. But eyes are mostly still closed and we're about 2 inches long from crop to tail when sitting vs little bigger than penny at hatch. Still don't know if this is normal Figuritas growth or not, in comparison to a homer, but I suspect not.

Cannoli and Crumpet my 2nd pair of birds, eyeing me up for suspicious activity
