Raising and caring for ducklings

What a great thread idea, thank you!

Our Pekin ducklings are between 3-4 days old according to the staff at the feed store. I am wondering how often we should handle them. They seem to enjoy it but if it affects them negatively in a physical way I want to know. I don't want to handle them if they're too young.

Also I sexed them myself and did it twice and nothing popped out so I'm really hoping they are both girls. Lol! I held each for about five seconds each time. Was that long enough?

When I had my duckling inside I held him every time sat down I had a large towel that I draped across my shoulder and he would climb under it and have a nap just like he was getting under his mamas feathers. So as long as they are enjoying a cuddle I see nothing wrong with it. That is one way to get them use to you and being handled. Another fun thing to do is sit on the floor and let them climb all over you.

I just wanted to let you know that 3 out of 5 hatched!!!!
They are all healthy and growing

I am happy to report that they seem to have imprinted on me! They happy snuggle into my arms or chest and follow me around the house! <3
