So I'm finally going to get my first batch of babies in the morning. I've had chickens for a few years now but this will be my first time raising day old chicks so I have a few questions I was hoping to get some advice on.
I'm buying them from a local farmers co-op here in Virginia and they are claiming they will have Aracuana chicks, which after reading through other posts I've come to accept that they may not be true Aracuana (which is ok, just hope they do lay those pretty blue eggs) but I was wondering if there's anyway to tell if they really are Aracuanas at that age and also I wanted to find out if you are able to tell what color they will be when they are adults so I can try and pick out the ones I want.
Another question I had was about eventually breeding them. From what I understand Aracuanas can sometimes be difficult to raise because of some gene tied to the tufts they have. Anyone have any experience with this?

Aracaunas have ear tufts and no tails, and are pretty uncommon. VERY unlikely to be at the co-op! Check up about the breed, and then you will know. Mary

I got my chicks from a feed mill and was advertised as Auracana very pretty chicks and my daughter loves them. But now as they grow older they have developed tails. [IMG] Like posted earlier as long as the eggs are blue/green all is good

Well I finally got my babies today. Suppose to be all pullets (fingers crossed). When I search for images of day old Aracuana chicks some of them look like mine. Some dont. Anyone that has had true Aracuanas have pictures of what the chicks look like?

Ok good, that's what all mine look like too. Did you breed yours or did they come from a hatchery?
